TURKEY TRAPPER
This pattern is best suited for an EXPERIENCED BEGINNER.
Notions |
· Yarn: Medium 4 (I used Sugar ‘N Cream | Warm Brown, Hot Orange, Cream, Red, Bamboo, and Rainforest - note about the yarn: this is 100% Cotton, the feel is stiff, no stretch, and the colors are muted or flat)
· Hooks: 5.0 mm and 4.0 mm
· 2 - ¾” Black Buttons, Tapestry Needle, Scissors

Body of Hat (I used Warm Brown) |
Make a Magic Ring, CH 2 (this portion is crocheted in a round)
Round 1: 9 DC in magic ring, join with SS to top of CH 2 [here after referred to as join], (9 DC) -- pull Magic Ring snug
Round 2: CH 2 , 2 DC in each ST, join (18 DC)
Round 3: CH 2 , *2 DC in ST, 1 DC in next ST*, repeat * to *, join (27 DC)

Hat Edge (I used Hot Orange) |
Tie on edge color, SC around the edge of the hat, join to first single crochet, fasten off, sew in ends
Braided Tails |
Cut 5 - 1-yard strands of each desired color (I used Warm Brown, Hot Orange, Red, Bamboo -- reserve 1 strand of each color to wrap braid bottom).
Fold strands in half; passing folded end through bottom most space in earflap; pull loose ends through loop; pull snug. Braid, use reserve stands to band and secure the bottom of braid, trim ends.
Eyes (2 - I used Cream) |
Make a Magic Ring, CH 2 (this portion is crocheted in a round)
Round 1: 8 DC in magic ring, join with SS to top of chain [here after referred to as join], (8 DC) -- pull Magic Ring snug
Round 2: CH 2, 2 HDC into each stitch, join (16 HDC)
Round 3: CH 1. *2 SC in ST, 1 SC into next ST* repeat * to *, join (24 SC)
Round 4: CH 1, *2 SC in ST, 1 SC into next 2 ST* repeat * to *, join (32 SC)
Round 5: CH 1, *2 SC in ST, 1 SC into next 3 ST* repeat * to *, join (40 SC)
Fasten off, sew in ends
USE 4.0 MM HOOK
Beak (1 – I used Hot Orange) |
CH 2
Row 1: 2 DC in 2nd CH from hook, CH 1, turn
Row 2: 1 DC, 2 DC in last ST, CH 1, turn
Row 3: 1 DC in next 2 STs, 2 DC in last ST, CH 1, turn
Row 4: 1 DC in next 3 STs, 2 DC in last ST, CH 1 turn
Row 5: 1 DC in next 4 STs, 2 DC in last St
SC around edge of Triangle. Fasten off, leave long tail to attach
Feathers (9 – 2 Bamboo, 2 Red, 2 Hot Orange, 2 Rainforest, 1 Warm Brown) |

(in top loops) TC in 3rd CH from hook, 1 TC in next 9 STs, TC 6 times in last ST
TC in each ST working up the other side of the starter chain, finish off, leave tail to attach.
Turkey Butt (1 – I used Warm Brown) |

Round 4: CH 1, *2 HDC in ST, 1 HDC into next 2 ST* repeat * to *, join (32 HDC)
Round 5: CH 1, *2 HDC in ST, 1 HDC into next 3 ST* repeat * to *, join (40 HDC)
Fasten off, sew in ends
Gobble (1 – I used Red) |
Ch 12 turn
(in top loops) SC in 2nd CH from hook, 2 SC, 2 HDC, 2 DC, 3 TC, 5 TC in last chain. Working up the other side of the starter chain - 2 TC, 1 DC, 1 HDC , 6 SC, fasten off, leave tail to attach
Assemble |
Sew buttons onto eyes
Sew eyes, gobble, and beak onto hat.
Sew 9 colored feathers onto back side of Turkey Butt and sew the Turkey Butt onto the back/top of hat, sew in ends
