This is a work in progress, but I saw there was a need and tried to get this out quickly. The pattern is included in this description and will make the hat shown in the photo:
BLO - crochet in the back loop only
C2tog - crochet two together
Sc2 - crochet two single crochet stitches in the same stitch
3c - triple crochet
I used dk weight yarn and a 3.75 or F hook
Start with 3 sc in a Magic Loop
All rounds except R10 are in BLO. This helps minimize bulk.
R1: 2sc in each stitch around (6)
R2: ^SC, 2sc, repeat from ^ around (9)
R3: ^SC 2x, 2sc, repeat from ^ around (12)
R4: ^SC 2x, 2sc, repeat from ^ around (16)
R5: SC around (16)
R6: ^SC 3x, 2sc, repeat from ^ around (20)
R7: SC around
R8: ^SC 4x, 2sc, repeat from ^ around (24)
R9: ^C2tog, SC, repeat from ^ around (16)
R10: Chain 3, 3C around, slip stitch into Chain 3 to complete
Tie off and weave in end, leave starting end
Fold triple crochet row up to make the “ribbing” (it won’t be stretchy, it’s only for the look)
Take one or two strands of yarn and feed through the top pointy bit of the hat so they are attached in the middle along with the starting tail. Braid loosely to desired length, tie, and cut the ends to form the tassel.
Flatten and sew if desired or sew the ribbing down and add a safety pin to the back.
